The goal of a cooking immersion session is to provide participants with an understanding of what an accredited cookery course entails, while highlighting training opportunities and career pathways available. The key is immersion — where participants are fully involved, learning not only through watching but by actively participating in cooking.
By immersing participants in a hands-on cooking experience, the session offers a glimpse into the practical skills and techniques learned in a formal culinary program.
By showcasing the potential for growth and professional development in this field, the session encourages individuals to explore long-term career opportunities in the hospitality sector.
Recommended for Year 10, 11 & 12 students.
Cookery Immersion Sessions – what’s involved
- Introduction to Ingredients and Techniques: The session usually starts with an overview of the key ingredients, tools, and techniques that will be used. This can involve learning about the proper preparation of ingredients, knife skills, or unique cooking methods.
- Demonstrations: A skilled trainer will demonstrates how to prepare 1 or 2 dishes step-by-step, explaining specific techniques and flavor combinations.
- Hands-On Cooking: After the demonstration, participants will get the chance to cook themselves. They’ll follow the instructions, work with the ingredients, and try their hand at cooking under the guidance of the trainer.
- Taste Test and Industry Talk: The session ends with participants sitting down to enjoy their creation, whilst hearing about hospitality pathways and course opportunities.
